Obstacles or excuses……

Obstacles or excuses……

Excuse no 1….I have a cold, not just a little cold but 5 weeks of snot generating, chest infecting cold. But has this stopped me from training? Well sort of, what I have done is my weight training and weekend sea/river acclimatisation swims. Including a 30 minutes swim at 6c on Dartmoor on the 8 January. Last Saturday I was joined in the sea by both my sisters and also assorted friends and family as we enjoyed a chilly surf/bodyboard/jump around in the waves of Treyarnon Bay in Cornwall.

Excuse no 2….We also has great plans for coast path walks last weekend but unfortunately we were distracted by sand dunes and rocky outcrops which required sliding down and climbing on. In our defence climbing back up the sand dunes (after sliding down them) is possibly the hardest thing I have ever done, one step forward, two steps back etc etc

Excuse no 3…We also had great plans for cycling but a) Jenn had to rush off to collect the dog from the kennels and b) 3miles in I got a puncture, I did continue to for another 3 miles but the return journey was out of the questions.

So all in all a fair amount of physical exertion was undertaken but most of it is unconnected to our challenge.

Obstacle no 1….Well of course that is Christmas, who didn’t join us in a bit of over indulgence over the festive period.

Obstacle no 2….Loads of other fun to be had, including yet another challenge I have initiated for 2012, this one is considerably less wholesome than the Channel swim and multi sports ones I am already engaged in. This one is to visit as many of the pubs mentioned in the 2012 edition of the good pub guide.

Obstacle no 3….work, have you noticed how that gets in the way of everything. I’m certain if I didn’t have to go to work every day I would be stick thin and fit as a butchers dog.

And what about the rest of Kim and Jenns training

Kim seems to be going great guns, she’s doing a couple of runs a week with her friend Teresa (who’s on a couch to marathon training programme) as well as at least one run of her own. She recently had to return a size 14 dress because it was too big so it’s clearly working for her.

Jenn has fully embraced the whole exercise thing, it’s only taken her until she’s 25 so she’s not doing too bad. She’d doing Pilates and Volleyball every week and there is even talk about joining the gym.

They’re making me feel guilty so from next week (or as soon as chest infection has cleared up) I’ll be back to knocking out the lengths in the pool.
